TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A 16-year-old has been arrested after he carjacked a victim at gunpoint and led police on a chase through Tallahassee Thursday morning.
The Tallahassee Police Department says that the carjacking happened around 1:30 a.m. on Melvin Street. The victim told officers that they were robbed at gunpoint by a suspect who also stole the victim's vehicle.
The stolen vehicle was immediately spotted by an officer in the area of Wahnish Way and FAMU Way and a traffic stop was initiated but the suspect didn't stop, leading officers on a chase to the area of Parkridge Drive and Ryco Drive.
There, police say the suspect tried to go around a curve but lost control and crashed into a utility pole. The suspect then ran from the crash but was ultimately located by officers and arrested.
The suspect has been identified as 16-year-old male.
The teen was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for a minor injury sustained during the crash. Officers transported the 16-year-old to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing of current charges by the Tallahassee Police Department and other charges including warrants for his arrest.
WTXL is choosing not to release the victim's name since adult charges have not been filed.
