TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Taylor County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a photo of a gun pointed at a black student at Taylor County High School, along with a caption featuring a racial slur, circulated the school Monday.
Deputies say Monday morning, during a second period class, a student “air dropped” a photo to the phones of several other students in the class.
The photo depicted students seated in their seats in a fourth period class and appeared to have been taken several weeks ago. However, deputes say a hand holding a handgun had been edited into the photo.
Now, the sheriff's office is working to determine the source of the photo.
It has been determined that there is no threat to any students at this time, and normal school activities have not been interrupted.
In a statement, Taylor County High School officials said they have received information concerning what they referred to as an "edited photo" from several weeks ago.
The school went on to explain that they are "working with law enforcement to find the source of the photo."
Anyone with information regarding the photo are asked to contact Lt. Steve Bell at Taylor County High School.
Several parents and members of the Taylor County community have reached out to ABC 27 expressing their concerns about the photo.
