VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — A 28-year-old man is facing felony charges after police say he lied and said he was beat up and robbed by five men.
The Valdosta Police Department says 28-year-old Keith Williams called 911 and reported that he had been assaulted and robbed by five unknown black men. Police say he told the 911 dispatcher that the suspects had driven away from the area.
As officers spoke with Williams, they found some inconsistencies with the story he was providing them.
Officers checked surveillence video in the area and quickly determined that Williams had not been robbed.
Based on the evidence, Williams was placed under arrest for providing a false statement to law enforcement. While he was being searched, VPD says Williams had several empty baggies on him that contained residue of Alpha PVP (AKA Flakka).
Williams was transported to Lowndes County Jail, where he was charged with providing a false statement to law enforcement (felony), and possession of narcotics equipment (felony).
“When Williams called 911 and reported that he was robbed, due to the type of crime reported, numerous officers responded quickly to the area. This false report not only wasted a lot of our officers time, but it also put their lives at risk while they responded,” said Chief Leslie Manahan.
