TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A Tallahassee man has been arrested after police say an argument over his drinking problem led him to attack and sexually assault a victim multiple times.
According to court documents, a victim reported to Tallahassee Police on April 13 that she had been sexually battered by 24-year-old Chad Grady the night before.
The victim said they had been arguing about Grady's "drinking problem" hours before the victim found him naked, sleeping in the bed with the children inside their shared home. When the victim asked Grady, who had been drinking prior to their conversation, why he was in the children's bed, the victim told police he stated, "because you don't want me."
Documents say the victim tried to get Grady out of the bed, but he got angry and punched the victim, knocking her back into the hallway. The victim said that Grady continued "ranting" that the the victim did not want to be with him while he continued assaulting her. At one point during the assault, Grady went into the kitchen and continued to "combo" punch the victim in the head and torso, according to court documents.
The victim told police that Grady then forced her into another bedroom and proceeded to sexually assault her multiple times. At some point during the sexual assault, the victim stated that Grady grabbed a belt and wrapped it around his hand saying, "that's what's wrong with you, you need a man that'll take control."
After several sexual acts, documents say Grady went outside to smoke a cigarette and then fell asleep. While Grady was sleep, the victim was able to escape and call the police.
When police spoke to Grady about the incident, he admitted that he was still drunk when the victim started "antagonizing" him. He told investigators that things became, "very loud and aggressive, both on her end and my end. She hit me and I retaliated and it didn't go as subtle as I wanted. I just wanted to shake her to get away from me."
Documents say Grady said that the victim shoved him in the chest, so he grabbed her and pushed her against the wall. He said that they kept arguing and at some point, he picked up the victim by the arms and carried her into their bedroom. He claimed that they continued yelling at each other until they eventually had sex.
Investigators say Grady stated, "It was forced. It was forced... She didn't say no, she didn't say stop." He said that the victim didn't seem to resist but admitted that the sexual acts were, "A lot more than I should have done."
Grady told investigators that he thought everything was fine until he was awoken by an officer, saying "That was a very sobering experience."
Based on the evidence, Grady was arrested and charged with three counts of sexual assault and battery. He is being held in jail on a $77,500 bond.
