VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — A 19-year-old has been arrested for murder in connection to a shooting in Valdosta.

According to the Valdosta Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 700 block of South Oak Street, after a person called 911 reporting that someone had been shot on Jan. 22.

When they arrived, officers found that 30-year-old Rashawn Mays had been shot and killed.

Police say additional detectives and Crime Scene Personnel responded to conduct an investigation. During the investigation, detectives determined that the victim was shot during an argument with the suspect.

That suspect was later identified as 19-year-old Shamar Dequan Wilson. He was taken into custody on Monday for felony murder, armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

“Our detectives and crime scene personnel have been working non-stop conducting this investigation and processing evidence. I am extremely proud of the work that our department has done and is continuing to do in this case,” said Chief Leslie Manahan.

Mays' body was transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Medical Examiners Office, where authorities say an autopsy will be conducted at a later date.

The case is still on-going and further charges are pending.
