(WTXL) — Suspended Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is just days away from finding out whether he'll get his job back.
Governor Ron DeSantis suspended Israel in January. DeSantis cited failures related to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre and the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport Shooting.
Some parents of students killed in Parkland oppose Israel's reinstatement.
"Today we're gonna stand here and we're gonna do everything we can to ensure that the citizens of Broward County are safe and stay safe. And that Scott Israel has nothing to do with their safety ever again. Thank you," said Fred Guttenberg.
A special investigator says Israel should return to duty and that DeSantis didn't prove the charges in the suspension order.
The Florida State Senate is scheduled to have a final vote on Wednesday.
