TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Turn About, Inc. provides free counseling services for Big Bend area elementary, middle school, high school, and college students. Because of the pandemic, the state is slashing its funding.

Turn About Inc. provides free consoling to children and families dealing with mental health issues and substance abuse.

The executive director, Dr. Wachell McKendric says Turn About was able to provide free clinical services to 270 students in the Big Bend area.

The proposed budget cuts mean the organization may not be able to provide free services to families that can't afford treatment.

"We were able to give those services to kids who didn't have the means to pay for therapy that they do need if they are victimized by bullying, if they're victimized by watching their parents in a domestic violence situation," said McKendric. "You can't learn when you're thinking about those things."

McKendric says you can support the non-profit organization by calling your local politician.
