LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. — The Lowndes Associated Ministries to People is opening its doors next week, hoping to help connect the homeless community with resources while welcoming visitors to its shelter.
Interim shelter director, Yurshema Flanders, says the homeless population is a problem in Lowndes County and this shelter is addressing the need.
"LAMP is the only homeless shelter of its kind between Orlando Florida and Macon Georgia who houses men, women and families, so there is a humongous need for our community to pull together," said Flanders.
The shelter is hosting an open house Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m
Flanders asks visitors bring nonperishable foods and hygiene products with them to be donated.
