TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Tallahassee just took one step toward the future.

The city is welcoming MetroNet a new broadband option for Internet. The good news for all of us: This internet is supposed to be really fast!

The Midwest company is investing more than $75 million to improve broadband availability in the Capital City. Mayor John Dailey says this will be good for Tallahassee's economy as well as its capabilities.

"For selfish reasons we're very excited to have MetroNet here it adds to our infrastructure and being able to provide strong fiber for good connectivity in Tallahassee," said Mayor Dailey.

The company will create about 40 new jobs here in Tallahassee in addition to the 350 temporary jobs during the construction phase.

Construction on the new lines will begin in January.
