JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in Tallahassee after investigators say he fatally shot his grandma in the head and called 911 in an attempt to cover it up.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a 911 call on March 5 from a teenager at a home in the 2800 block of Shack Circle in Marianna. The child stated that an unknown person had broke into the home and shot a family member.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim, 65-year-old Patricia Ann Shack lying in her bed with an apparent gunshot wound to her head.

During the investigation, deputies, assisted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Scene unit, the Department of Corrections Canine Unit, and the Florida Wildlife Commission, found a shotgun and two .22 caliber rifles along with various other evidence.

JCSO says K-9s were then called in to search the home for any human scene of a suspect. Authorities found no evidence of an intruder leaving the home and no shell casings on the ground outside.

On March 14, investigators learned that the bullet recovered from the victim during the autopsy was fired from one of the .22 caliber rifles that was at the crime scene.

"During the investigation, investigators discovered discrepancies and inconsistencies with the juvenile’s 911 call and recollection of events as compared to evidence observed at the scene," deputies say. On Monday, investigators developed probable cause to charge the teen in the murder of Patricia Shack.

Investigators then traveled to Tallahassee and, with the assistance of Leon County Sheriff’s Office, the juvenile suspect was arrested and transported to the juvenile detention facility in Leon County to await first appearance.

WTXL is choosing not to identify the juvenile due to his age.
