TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Florida State University Police Department says a suspect is in custody after he allegedly robbed a student while armed with a knife and tried to take the victim with him.
FSU PD says they were called around 6:45 a.m. Monday for a robbery. When they arrived, they spoke to the victim who said he was walking toward Gilchrist Hall when the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Rodney Jermaine Joyner, tried to rob him.
The victim told police that Joyner was armed with a knife. Police say the suspect removed the victim’s phone from his pocket, demanded the password, and and tried to take the victim along with him during the robbery.
After a struggle, the victim managed to get away from Joyner. The suspect then ran from the scene alone and was seen entering a parked car and driving away.
Minutes after being called, FSU PD arrested Joyner in the 100 block of West Bloxham Street, just a block away from his abandoned car.
Joyner is being charged with robbery with a weapon, aggravated battery, and attempted kidnapping during the commission of a crime. He is due for a first appearance in court Tuesday morning. He is not affiliated with FSU.
FSU PD says an investigation into the robbery is ongoing.
