TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — On Thursday night, the Tallahassee Police Department along with Target partnered to give kids in the community a winter holiday they will never forget.
The Heroes and Helpers initiative hosted by the department every year gives kids in Leon County a chance for them to be paired with a cop and pick out gifts for the kid's family.
Officers also provided gift wrapping for families and did arts and crafts with the children.
"Kids only see us during the bad things, as far as traffic crashes, someone's hurt, someone's injured, someone's going to jail. So, this is a great opportunity for them to see the personal side of police officers," said Officer Damon Miller, TPD Public Information Officer.
This year the program helped 80 children and Target provided $50 gift cards to each child.
