TALLAHASSEE, Fla — There's about 500 patients in the Tallahassee area that are on dialysis and sometimes when people's kidney's fail they're either unaware or its too late.

That's why DaVita Sunshine State Dialysis Center is urging those with a history of high blood pressure to make sure they see a doctor.

The two biggest causes of failing kidneys are diabetes and hypertension.

"If you are diabetic or if you have high blood pressure, it's very important that you stick to the treatment regiment prescribed by your doctor, and it's also very important that you go see the doctor every year for blood tests. Those blood test can predict if your kidney function is declining, and if your function is declining and you see a nephrologist, a kidney doctor, they can recommend ways to preserve your kidneys as long as possible," said Dion Atchison, Regional Operations Director.

This clinic has 20 chairs and is up to treating up to 120 patients.
