LIBERTY COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The amount of confirmed coronavirus cases in Liberty County grew by more than 80 overnight as more inmates at the Liberty Correctional Institution test positive for the virus.

This comes after cases in the county grew by more than 40 on Thursday.

According to the latest numbers from the Florida Department of Health, there are now 196 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Liberty County.

Of the 82 new cases, all but one, a 35-year-old woman, are males ranging from 21 to 73 years old. All of the cases are believed to stem from contact with a confirmed case.

However, that number is likely to continue growing, as the Florida Department of Corrections reports that 183 inmates at the prison have tested positive for the virus, which is reflective of nearly 20 additional inmates since Thursday.

Liberty Correctional Institution now has the highest amount of confirmed cases out of all Florida prisons.

Seven employees have also tested positive. Nearly 350 inmates have been placed in quarantine while seven inmates have been placed in medical isolation.

FDOC reports more than 1,400 of the inmates tested at the facility have tested negative for the virus.

So far, 1,313 people have been tested for coronavirus in the county.
