TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A crack down on school safety. Leon High School is putting the finishing touches on their new guard shack.

Leon High is the first high school in the county to receive one.

This comes in part from the shooting that killed 17 students at Marjory Stoneman Douglass High School last year.

It will house a security monitor outside of the school to keep an eye on who enters and leaves the campus. One of the assistant principals at the school is hopeful this will help keep students safe.

"We certainly hope that students feel safe already but this is just an extra measure to make sure that all of our students are safe and we know who is coming on and off campus and we can stop any potential danger coming in from the outside," said Riley Bell, the assistant principal at Leon High School.

The school hopes to have it finished in the next couple of weeks.
