TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A Leon County bus driver has been hospitalized in serious condition after losing consciousness while driving and crashing into a tree Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bus was going westbound Morning Dove Road just before 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday when the 32-year-old female driver "experienced a unknown medical condition which caused the driver to lose conscious."

The bus then traveled to the right onto the unpaved shoulder of Morning Dove Road, the front of the bus crashing into a tree.

FHP said the driver was trapped inside the bus before being extracted from the vehicle by Leon County Fire Rescue.

The driver, who has not been identified by authorities, was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The two passengers inside the bus, a 5-year-old child and 8-year-old child, were not harmed.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Leon County Sheriff Office and Leon County EMS.
