LEON COUNTY, Fla. — The Leon County School Board is set to vote on a $100,000 settlement with former superintendent Jackie Pons.

After Pons lost his reelection bid in 2016, he tried returning to his former role as a principal, but the school board voted not to rehire him.

Pons sought damages in regards to rejection of his requests for reinstatement as Principal, the last position he held prior to the conclusion of his term as Superintendent of Leon County Schools on Nov. 21, 2016. Pons based his claim on Board Policy 1430, stating that said policy entitled him to retain a right to return to a position comparable to the one he held prior to serving in the office of Superintendent.

However, the district said Pons wasn't an employee when that policy was adopted.

Pons was seeking nearly $700,000 if the employment dispute couldn't be resolved through mediation.

The board will vote on the settlement Monday.
