LEON COUNTY, Fla. — A big part of Veterans Day is making sure our service men and women are taken care of.

On Monday morning, Leon County partnered with the American Legion to do just that.

They gathered at their Lake Ella location for Operation Thank You for an early breakfast.

Throughout the year, Leon County workers have helped local veterans with more than nearly $19 million in claims actions.

In conjunction with Veterans Day, American Legion Post 13 is celebrating a major milestone.

"And this is our 100th anniversary as American Legion. And this post has been in existence since June 9, 1919. And we are very proud to be able to celebrate our 100th anniversary," said Homer Frailey, Commander of American Legion Post 13.

The American Legion is the largest war-time veterans service organization with nearly 2 million members and more than 12,000 posts worldwide.

It's also been instrumental in the creation of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Flag Code, and the Passage of the G.I. Bill.
