LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Wednesday morning, the Florida Association of Counties recognized Leon County for going above and beyond to help other counties and their citizens.
Leon County is the first recipient of the Counties Helping Counties award.
The Florida Association of Counties recognized Leon for assisting recovery efforts in the panhandle as well as conducting an immersive four-day program for the FAC in 2019.
While the FAC serves Florida's 67 counties, many of its staff members have never worked with or for local governments.
Through the program, Leon County gave FAC staff hands-on exposure to the different roles and requirements of local governments. This included the critical services Leon provides its citizens and the multi-faceted nuances of running a county government.
The FAC said that Leon County provided the organization a deep understanding of a county's role and now has a direct hand in its success.
