LEON COUNTY, Fla. — The Leon County Health Department is taking part In World No Tobacco Day, by encouraging people to live tobacco free.
Tobacco kills more than 8 million people each year, that's according to the World Health Organization.
Health officials say their is still a large amount of tobacco users in our area. Today, they are reaching out to raise awareness about the dangers that come with using tobacco.
"Tobacco can cause different lung diseases such as lung cancer and COPD," said Chloe Hale, Tobacco Prevention Specialist for the Leon County Health Department. "It's important for them to quit as soon as possible to improve their lung health and the lung health of everyone around them."
For those trying to quit, some helpful tips include: making a plan and setting a quit date, exercising, and drinking lots of water.
