LEON COUNTY, Fla. — Those in the Baum community, hit hard by last week's tornadoes may be able to rebuild a little bit faster.
Leon County is discussing a plan to speed up the rebuilding process. The proposal would waive permit fees and even let homeowners start construction without a permit.
Those permits usually take about 9 to 10 days to process, but now the county could expedite them.
"Our staff will work with the homeowners as they work through this process, so this is something we have done with past storms," said Kristin Dozier, Leon County Commissioner of District 5.
The Baum Community in Leon County was hit by an EF-3 tornado just nine days ago. Five homes were damaged and five more were destroyed.
On Monday, the Leon County Sheriff's Office was in the community handing out donations. If you'd still like to donate, you can through Wednesday.
