LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Leon County Courthouse and Tallahassee City Hall will be closed to the public on Jan. 19 and Jan. 20 as law enforcement prepares to respond to any potential Inauguration Day protests at the Florida State Capitol.
Leon County officials said the Leon County Courthouse will be closed at the request of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement.
"Due to an abundance of caution, local law enforcement made the request to assist with operations in responding to any potential protests in the area of the Florida State Capitol on or around Inauguration Day," county officials wrote in a release sent Thursday morning.
The City of Tallahassee said that while City Hall will be closed to the public, all municipal services will remain operational.
"This action is being taken out of an abundance of caution related to possible protests at the Florida Capitol. The City of Tallahassee is committed to ensuring the reliability of its services while protecting the health and safety of residents and employees," city officials said in a release.
This comes as local law enforcement agencies make staffing preparations ahead of what could become an active weekend.
