TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Leon County commissioners are discussing Florida's re-opening and how youth sports could be impacted.
Leon County is keeping in contact with Florida Recreation Parks Association, along with following CDC guidelines.
The county says those engaging in team-based practices are at a lower risk than what it would be with full, open competition.
One takeaway has to do with the governor's order from May 22, which focused on youth sports continuing during Phase One.
"There's a lot of different issues that could be challenging," said Kristin Dozier, a Leon County commissioner. "In addition to what you all have said, with shared equipment, I'm not sure we ever had 10 or less in a dugout but 50 or less seems impossible for little league games out in Chaires or other places."
Commissioners also examined the rise of COVID-19 cases across the state, attributing the increase to Memorial Day weekend gatherings as well as the Phase One re-opening.
