(WTXL) — Deputy Dave Teems with the Leon County Sheriff's Office joined ABC 27 on Thursday to tell us about the "America's Top Dog Competition" and a special event that honors heroes and save lives.

Some of Leon County Sheriff's Office K9 teams will soon be competing in the national spotlight.

A&E's new K-9 competition series "America's Top Dog," brings together top K9 cops and civilian dogs alongside their handlers as they compete on a K9 obstacle course that tests their speed, agility and teamwork.

The first episode, aired on Wednesday night and featured Deputy Casey Skelton and K-9 Maverick.

They are competing for the top prize of $10,000 and an additional $5,000 to donate to the animal charity of their choice.

LCSO is also holding a special blood drive event. This special blood drive honors heroes and save lives and is open to the public!

Everyone who makes a donation for this drive will receive a Chick-fil-a and Papa Johns gift card as well as a long sleeve t-shirt.

Those who register for an appointment for this event (and keep it) will be entered to win a gift basket (including a $50 gift card) from Mission BBQ.
