LEON COUNTY, Fla. — The Leon County Sheriff's Office is renewing their call for responsible gun ownership.

They say a big part of that is locking your car. Law enforcement says there is a problem with people leaving their firearms out in plan sight.

LCSO Deputy Dave Teems stopped by our studio's Thursday afternoon to explain how important it is to make sure your guns are kept locked in a safe place at all times.

"We don't want to see your gun taken out and used against us, or against other people here in Leon County," said Teems. "It's important to make sure those firearms are locked away so that they can't go out and commit violence in the community with someone that's using it."

Deputy Teems also says that last month there were 39 car burglaries reported to the Leon County Sheriffs Office and eight of those cars had firearms stolen out of them.
