MARIANNA, Fla. (WTXL) — A death investigation is underway in Jackson County after a domestic violence situation ended in the death of a man who allegedly attacked his girlfriend.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a death that happened on Jan. 14 in Marianna, that allegedly stemmed from a fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend.
On Jan. 14 around 5:35 p.m. JCSO received a 911 call from a woman saying that she and her boyfriend had been involved in a fight at their home in Marianna.
The caller told authorities she had been physically attacked by her boyfriend and he wouldn't allow her to leave the home.
According to the deputies, the fight that began in the bedroom lead into the living room, where the boyfriend, who has not been identified, tackled the woman and began to choke her.
The woman, authorities said, began to defend herself and started choking the man, who then went unconscious. The woman left the home, called 911, and waited for law enforcement to arrive.
Once police arrived at the home on Maridale Road, JCSO said they found the man unresponsive on the floor and began life-saving efforts.
Jackson County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and took over medical efforts to revive the man as he was being transported to Jackson Hospital.
But, deputies said the man never regained consciousness and passed away the night of Jan. 15.
JCSO's investigation into the incident is ongoing as they await autopsy results.
