TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — We're just over three weeks away from Hurricane Season and all week long we've been telling you how you can get prepared now before the storm hits.
Friday's topic is: Help your neighbor.
Many people rely on neighbors for help after a disaster, but you can also help them before a hurricane approaches. It's important that you keep them in mind during your planning process.
"Find out if anyone with special needs that you can help with during a disaster," said Kevin Peters, the Leon County Emergency Management Director. "Maybe it's simple enough of allowing them to stay with you, or they may need a ride if you live in an area where you may need to evacuate."
Make sure you help your neighbor collect all of the supplies they'll need before the storm.
If you're ordered to evacuate, help make sure your neighbor has somewhere to go and a way to get there. And after the storm, make sure you check back in with them when it's safe to do so.
