CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) — About 500 turkeys were given away Tuesday at the 6th annual J.J. Wilcox Turkey Giveaway in Cairo.
It took place at Washington Middle School. All of the food was gone within 37 minutes.
Along with the turkeys, volunteers gave out greens, beans, potatoes and just about everything you need to cook a delicious Thanksgiving meal.
"A city that's 42 percent impoverished, you'll just be surprised how much a simple meal can help somebody and inspire somebody to keep moving forward," said Gainor.
IGA also delivered another 75 Thanksgiving meals to the disabled and elderly.
