TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Innovation Park of Tallahassee is receiving a $10.2 million award expected to fund a project that will to bring hundreds of jobs to our community over the next 10 years.
It might not look like much now, but a stretch of land will soon be home to a 40,000 square foot business hub called The North Florida Innovation Labs.
After decades in the making, design, and construction for the $17 million project will begin immediately.
Local leaders call it a game-changer with plans to bring as many as 639 jobs to Tallahassee and help retain the wealth of talent cultivated in Tallahassee's colleges and universities.
"This is a great day for Tallahassee and a huge investment in our community," said John Dailey, the mayor of Tallahassee. "This allows us to continue to attract great businesses and innovation to Tallahassee, and it gives people opportunities with incredible new jobs and allows us to retain the talent coming out of the university communities."
The $10.2 million grant will be used in conjunction with funds from the Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency, The Florida State University Research Foundation, and the Leon County Research Development Authority.
The project is expected to be completed in 2023.
