TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Hartsfield Elementary School announced they are receiving a $7,500 donation from South City Foundation.

"Our partners realize that strong schools make stronger communities, and with Hartsfield being a major hub on the southside, they know that their investment will go a long way," said Dr. Rhonda Blackwell-Flanagan, the principal of Hartsfield.

That investment will bring Hartsfield a new resource room where parents will be able to safely meet with staff, use computers, and learn more about resources within Tallahassee.

Blackwell-Flanagan says this donation goes to show the generosity and confidence the community has in its schools.

"They care about seeing our students thrive," Blackwell-Flanagan said. "Our parent and resource engagement center, it is a tool to create resources for parents to bring them together, so that they can work together and build relationships with other parents, with faculty and staff, with community members and it's just a way of increasing engagement."

Construction on the resource center is set to begin in June 2021 and will be open for the 2021-2022 school year.
