GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. — A Gadsden County city is getting major support from the state to improve public infrastructure.

This week, Governor DeSantis announced Gretna will get about $300,000.

The money will go towards a study about the Gulf to Gadsden Freight Logistics Zone.

It's an area of land through four counties to attract businesses with freight transportation. Gretna's part in the zone is 600 acres just off Interstate 10.

Antonio Jefferson, Gretna City Manager, says the area would benefit economically.

"Our suppliers, or our businesses, that produce goods both locally as well as statewide could use this facility as a means to getting their goods and materials out to other places in the world, and we're glad to be part of the overall strategy to make Florida more competitive to attract both imports and exports for our businesses," said Jefferson.

The zone would connect Port St. Joe in Gulf County to the CSX railroad in Gadsden County.

The study will look at the infrastructure needs of the Gretna property.
