TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — It was a busy Wednesday morning for Governor Ron DeSantis.

He signed Senate Bill 96 into law. The bill increases the penalty from a third degree felony to a second degree felony for harming a police canine or horse.

The crime will be punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

The bill will become law on October 1.
