TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Gov. Ron DeSantis says he will soon issue an executive order allowing retired law enforcement and healthcare workers to return to the workforce to fight COVID-19.
During a press conference Monday morning, DeSantis said he would waive the rule that keeps retired law enforcement and healthcare professionals from going back to work six months after retiring.
DeSantis said 60 percent of Florida's cases are in Southeast Florida.
To help combat further community spread, the governor also announced that he will sign an executive order formalizing "safer at home" rules for Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties.
The mayors of Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe and Palm Beach counties were also in attendance and stressed the importance of stopping community spread of COVID-19.
DeSantis also addressed news about several cruise ships projected to port in Florida in the coming days. He said that his focus was on Floridians and that he was pushing to have patients treated aboard the ship versus letting them disembark.
