GBI: Suspect arrested in statutory rape investigation in Cook County

COOK COUNTY, Ga. — A man has been arrested after authorities say he is accused of having sexual contact with a child in Cook County.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Sean Baxter, 43, was arrested and charged with Statutory Rape and Child Molestation on Wednesday.

The GBI’s Douglas Regional Office received a request from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, to assist with an investigation of an allegation of statutory rape.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Burnette Road in Adel, regarding a report of an unknown man at a home where a underage girl was home alone at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon.

When deputies arrived, they observed Baxter leaving the home and running into a trail in the woods.

Authorities say Baxter was apprehended nearby where he had parked his car.

Further investigation determined that Baxter had sexual contact with the juvenile during the visit.

The GBI says the investigation is active and ongoing.
