Game day traffic plan for Tallahassee on Saturday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The first Florida State football game of the season is not the only downtown event slated for this weekend.

Paw Patrol will be at the Civic Center, so we're preparing for heavy traffic in the area.

Tallahassee is no stranger to football games or other big events. But we can all use a reminder there will be road closures.

Labor Day weekend is shaping up to be a busy one in the Capital City and the Tallahassee Police Department needs drivers to be on alert.

“Be mindful. Your GPS might not be working correctly because of our road closures," said TPD Officer Damon Miller.

Parts of roads near Doak Campbell Stadium will be closed because of the game. Those include Pensacola, Tennessee, and Gaines Streets.

“Lake Bradford will be closed southbound especially after the game," said Miller.

Most* of the parking lots near Doak Campbell Stadium will open at 7 a.m. and will be free of charge to the general public.

You won't be able to get into Lots 1-6 though. Those are reserved for game staffing and Golden Chief Boosters.

With all the traffic, there's bound to be confusion. So TPD is asking everyone to be patient and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.

"Wherever you are going tomorrow, make sure you get there early. We will start shutting down intersections starting at 7:30 tomorrow," said Miller.

Another important note, the Spirit Express bus service from the Tucker Civic Center will not be available for the game. But there is general parking open to the public at the Civic Center.
