GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. — The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office took part in the state-wide torch run Wednesday, benefiting athletes of Special Olympics Florida.
Every year, over 5,000 law enforcement officers from over 300 Florida agencies carry the torch on a relay.
It spans 1,500 miles through all of Florida's 67 counties.
Money is raised through contributions from individuals and businesses and helps the athletes.
"The money raised for Special Olympics gets rid of the cost. None of the kids have to pay for anything when they travel with the Special Olympics," said Annie Trueblood, Gadsden County Special Olympics Coach. "We had a great turnout and kids enjoyed it as well as the law enforcement."
Wednesday's run started at the Gadsden Correctional Facility and ended at the Quincy Recreation Center.
