GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla.(WTXL) — Gadsden County Board of Commissioners have mandated that everyone must wear a cloth face mask in public to avoid the spread of COVID-19.

The board made the unanimous vote at a virtual meeting on Friday morning.

Commissioners say they mandated this order due to the number of cases that are increasing in the county.

The mandate includes customers and employees at construction sites, pharmacies, grocery stores, and delivery drivers.

Officials say the order will be enforced by Florida statute.

Residents are encouraged to use simple cloth coverings or homemade masks. Surgical or N95 masks are asked to be reserved for healthcare workers only

Commissioners stated the masks "shall not be placed on children under the age of two, anyone who has trouble breathing, unconscious, incapacitated or unable to remove the mask."
