GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. — The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office is hoping to bring sexual assault offenders to justice.

It's through an initiative called the Sexual Assault Kit or SAKI, started by the federal government.

SAKI provides new technology, allowing kits that have been sitting untested to come off the shelves.

This takes DNA testing to a new level. Lieutenant Anglie Hightower explains the need for this in Gadsden County.

"Those kits were on the shelves or in evidence labs that had not been tested but due to technology," said Hightower. "A lot of those kits now are being pulled out and tested their bringing a lot of offenders to justice and a lot of victims are getting some closure.”

They do not have the program in Gadsden County but Hightower and their special victims unit investigator were trained on the technology in November and hope to bring it to Gadsden.
