GADSDEN COUNTY, FL (WTXL) - — Gadsden County deputies are warning people to watch out for callers claiming to give you money from President Trump's stimulus package.

Investigators say they call, saying you qualify for a relief check of up to $14,000. Afterwards, they ask you for your credit or debit card number. If this happens to you, don't tell them anything and hang up the phone.

"Do not give any information over the telephone about COVID 19 or any other scam," said Gadsden County Sheriff's Sgt. Anglie Hightower. "Be advised that this is a sad and it's sad to say under this dire situation people are utilizing that but we know there are people out here who have deviant minds who would use any opportunity to scam someone."

The same scam is happening in Georgia, too Attorney General Chris Carr is encouraging people to remain vigilant and only rely on trusted sources when it comes to information concerning COVID-19.
