TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The community is coming together in Tallahassee to spread awareness around the "R" word and how it negatively impacts people with intellectual disabilities.
Best Buddies is an international non-profit created to spread inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Wednesday, along with different organizations spread awareness and get others to pledge not to use the "R" word.
March is disability awareness month, so that's why they chose do activate the campaign during this time.
"We're creating friendship bracelets. We're also pledging on a banner to end the 'R' word, as well as making some paper dolls that we're stringing up to show that FSU as a community and Tallahassee as a whole are united in spreading inclusion and ending the 'R' word," said Haley Brockway, the chapter president of FSU Best Buddies.
Best Buddies will also have a friendship block on March 28 at Langford Green where they'll spread more awareness and give out goodies like their friendship bracelets that they hand make.
