TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Children were the focus Thursday of the Early Childhood Court Symposium.

It was put on by the Florida State University College of Social Work and focused on the development and well-being of kids up to age five.

Darneshia Bell, with the Infant Toddler Court Program, says these years are particularly important for kids.

"When you think about it, when we talk about children in care in the range from birth to 3 years of age, the first 1,000 days of their life is when over 80 percent of the growth and development happens," said Bell. "The types of service and support we provide not only helps the growth and development of the child, but how we interact with their parents."

Participants talked about child parent psychotherapy, engaging families, and teaming.
