TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — As cities across the Big Bend continue to recover from one of the largest hurricanes to hit the area, a local church is using their hardship to help others.

Freedom Life Church, based in Chattahoochee, is donating 400 MRE's to City Walk Urban Mission.

About four months ago when Chattahoochee was hit by Hurricane Michael, Freedom Life Church started collecting the meal kits for people in the community, eventually serving about a thousand meals.

But now, the Church feels Chattahoochee has recovered at least enough that it can pay it forward. The first recipient, City Walk Urban Mission, which helps the homeless in Tallahassee.

The operation manager at the mission says this 400 meal donation will help for the foreseeable future.

"400 is a massive amount and we will be able to help people for several months with it, so we are very grateful to be able to have such a large donation all at once," said Courtney Humphrey, Operations Manager at City Walk Urban Mission.

Freedom Life Church is still collecting MREs. If you would like to donate, you can stop by the church.

The church also plans on continuing to pass out meals for a long as they can.
