ST. GEORGE ISLAND, Fla. (WTXL) — A 40-year-old man is dead after an drowning off St. George Island Monday afternoon.
The Franklin County Sheriff's office confirmed the information in a Facebook live on Monday.
Sheriff A.J. Smith said they were called for a water rescue around 2 p.m. when the man became distressed while swimming. Despite first responders efforts, the man died from an apparent drowning.
Smith said the man was visiting the beach as a tourist with his two small children and his wife.
"The conditions were pretty rough out there," Smith said. He said that more details would be released at a later date.
