MIDWAY, Fla. — We have new details on the former Midway police chief shot in the line of duty Monday night.

The Union City mayor said it's nothing short of a miracle that Jerome Turner Jr. is alive.

The suspect, 19-year-old Veltavious Griggs, died during the incident.

Turner was shot four times Monday night and had a successful surgery.

"We just want to let you know we love you, your like a family member to us and we have designated a member from our city council to go and visit him and the family," said Deric Mordica, Midway Chief of Police. "I've learned alot from him and hope he pulls through."

Turner will have another surgery on his knee.
