TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has arrested a former employee of Legacy Toyota after investigators discovered she embezzled more than $90,000 over two and half years.
FDLE agents arrested Chasitie Hart, 22, for one count of organized scheme to defraud over $50,000.00.
The investigation began in July 2019 when Legacy Toyota, a Tallahassee vehicle dealership, provided information to FDLE that indicated Hart had stolen approximately $90,580 over the course of two and a half years. She was employed as an accounts receivable clerk.
The investigation revealed numerous occurrences where Hart would make false entries into the dealership’s accounting system to conceal the theft of funds.
One of Hart’s methods to hidefunds included taking cash collected during a vehicle sale and applying it to a separate customer’s account from which she had previously taken money.
Agents say Hart used this method to purchase a personal vehicle for herself in October 2018. They say the thefts impacted the business, but not the customers.
Hart turned herself in to authorities on Thursday and was booked into the Leon County Jail.
