LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — A former law enforcement officer who was wanted for making false drug arrests has been arrested in Leon County.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement units assisted the U.S. Marshals Service with the arrest of a former deputy wanted in Martin County.
The former Martin County deputy was identified as 28-year-old Steven O'Leary of Stuart. He is accused of making several drug-related arrests in which the substances involved were not actually drugs.
Officials say O'Leary was traveling east on I-10 along with two other occupants on Monday at approximately 8:02 p.m.
The vehicle was eventually stopped on I-10 eastbound, at mile marker 196, by FHP and U.S. Marshals Service.
Troopers say O'Leary and the two other occupants were apprehended.
O'Leary was taken into custody and turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service without incident.
The other two occupants were interviewed then released shortly after.
The U.S. Marshals Service was assisted by the Florida Highway Patrol and CVE unit and the Leon County Sheriffs Office Aviation unit.
