TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Some well known college coaches gathered at the Capitol on Thursday to ask for disaster relief funding for the Panhandle.
More than six months after the Category 4 storm, homes and businesses still haven't recovered from the devastation.
Former University of Florida Coach Steve Spurrier, former Auburn Coach Cliff Ellis, and former Florida State University Assistant Coach Mickey Andrews all spoke.
They talked about the lack of permanent housing, neighbors still living in tents, and others living out of their cars.
"This problem was created six months ago with Hurricane Micheal," said Andrews. "It's been so slow and coming and to see what the people have to go through right now, it just breaks your heart."
Speakers also said teachers are losing their jobs and students are leaving schools because they are in such dire need.
