TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A former chemistry teacher at Chiles High School has been sentenced to spend two and a half years in prison for soliciting nudes from an underage student on social media.
On Tuesday, Casey Michael O'Brien, 34, was sentenced to 30 months in state prison for attempting to seduce a student.
On Aug. 20, 2018, Chiles High School received an anonymous alert saying O'Brien sent sexual messages to at least two students on social media. When they spoke to one of the victims, he said he received a picture and sexual video from O'Brien on Snapchat on April 8, 2018.
The victim told investigators that he and O'Brien began communicating in April 2018. Not long after they started talking, the victim said O'Brien began sending him sexual messages indirectly asking for nude pictures.
In one of their conversations, the victim told O'Brien he was a minor, and O'Brien responded, "Oh I thought you were a senior."
At some point, documents say the victim called O'Brien a pedophile and blocked him on Snapchat. Investigators say O'Brien later contacted the student on Instagram and apologized. From there, the victim said their conversations became "very casual."
Court documents say the victim gave investigators copies of the chats, pictures and videos he exchanged with O'Brien.
When O'Brien was questioned by a school official in August, he admitted to sending the student a sexual video but claimed he didn't know the victim was a student.
