Florida Supreme Court orders Gov. DeSantis to pick new justice to fill vacancy

The Florida Supreme Court has ordered Governor Ron DeSantis to make a new appointment to fill a vacancy on the state's Supreme Court.

The order was issued Friday morning, saying that Judge Renatha Francis is not eligible to serve as the next Justice because she did not meet the requirements of being a member of the Florida Bar for 10 years.

She would have been the first Jamaican-American to serve in the role.

In two weeks, Francis would've met the requirement but because the deadline to appoint an eligible nominee expired months ago, the high court ruled that the Governor has until Monday to make a new appointment.
