TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida minors may soon have to have parental consent before getting abortions.
State law currently requires parents to be notified if their daughters are having abortions.
But a House proposal would go further by requiring parental consent.
The bill includes exemptions for situations such as minors who have health emergencies or who already have children.
"We need to figure out how we turn this around and how we focus on life, because it is undeniable that an abortion ends a life, a life that has a purpose for this world," said State Representative Erin Grall.
After the vote by the House Judiciary Committee, the bill must clear one more committee before it can go to the House floor.
